Cyanotype taper candles by Energy Visitor Offerings

$70.00

These sapphire blue pure beeswax tapers are individually handpainted works of art and as such, no two will be the same.

They picture petals of hydrangea penetrated by light, inspired by the earliest method of capturing an image, marked by its gorgeous blue hue and known as the cyanotype. I painted all of these candles while listening to recorded biographical info and podcasts about the botanist and photographer Anna Atkins (1799-1871, Pisces sun, Cancer moon). Atkins is probably the most well-known cyanotype photographer and is considered the first person to have commercially published a book of photographs. She individually painstakingly captured over 300 specimens of algae in each volume of her book, "Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions".

Ideal as a gift for a photographer, a bride's "something blue", a prayer for clarity, a new moon bath, a pronouncement of devotion to one's self or other.
